This series comprises records created or retained by persons responsible for coordinating ELCA mission activities in the Central African Republic. These records were generated during the course of documenting, monitoring, and publicizing projects, programs, and general updates pertaining to the efforts to practice the accompaniment model of mission whereby the ELCA's Division for Global Mission (DGM) walks with the Eglise Evangelique Lutherienne de la Republique Centrafricaine (EELRCA) in mission efforts. The records are from 1976-2003, but the bulk date from 1988-2002. The date range precedes the existence of the ELCA because certain records were retained permanently by the area program director and as such were kept in this series for continuity purposes. This series comprises several accessions received into the ELCA Archives and as such includes records of the program directors mentioned in this series' background: the Rev. James L. Knutson, the Rev. Olin K Sletto, and the Rev. Eva Jensen. Record types include typewritten business correspondence, architectural plans, project reports, financial statements, project proposals, financial reports, budget proposals, assistance applications, progress reports, annual reports, treasurer's reports, budgets, topical papers, grant reports, meeting minutes, and trip reports. The series includes minutes, correspondence and financial reports related to the EELRCA and its president and treasurer and include records that pertain to specific departments or specific ministries of the EELRCA such as rural development, building projects, literacy, women's work, youth work, Fulani evangelism, and health care. In addition to folders related to specific mission work, trip reports also contain summaries of what work was occurring in those areas each year. This series also includes records related to the ELCA missionary association in Cameroon, known as ELCAMACAR. Arrangement of the records is by subseries: EELRCA, ELCAMACAR, and general subjects. The EELRCA subseries is further arranged into the following sub-subseries: education and evangelism, literacy, medical work, rural development, projects, and general. Many of the records are written in French. While this series includes records related to specific governing councils and committees, it does not have complete sets of these minutes and in most cases, there are many gaps in the records. This caveat also holds true for church publications, audit reports, financial statements, and project reports. It appears that whatever was sent to DGM is what comprised the files. It cannot be ascertained if consistent efforts were made to fill in any gaps in the records.
